MTR passengers can get 50% off eligible journeys on Saturday, 24 October 2026, when the railway holds a one-day “Thank You Day”.

The discount applies to journeys paid for with Octopus, including the JoyYou Card, on MTR rail services, Light Rail and MTR Bus routes in the northwest New Territories. Passengers paying by QR code can get half fares on the heavy rail network. Eligible East Rail journeys to and from Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau are included, according to MTR’s offer terms.

How you pay matters. For Octopus users, the half-fare offer can be combined with eligible interchange and Fare Saver discounts. Eligible connecting journeys made with a Monthly Pass can also receive their usual 25% reduction before the half-fare discount is applied. MTR says QR code users cannot combine the half-fare offer with other fare promotions.

The offer does not cover Airport Express journeys or the First Class premium on the East Rail Line. MTR Feeder Bus trips are also excluded. Electronic single-journey tickets and contactless bank card payments do not qualify.

Travellers using the JoyYou Card should check how their fare is calculated rather than assume every ride will cost HK$1. Since April 2026, Hong Kong’s government transport concession has charged eligible passengers HK$2 on journeys with an adult fare of HK$10 or less, or 20% of the adult fare on more expensive journeys. MTR’s half-fare offer can apply alongside that concession on eligible trips.

Passengers can check the full conditions on MTR’s Thank You Day page before travelling.
