Sincere, one of Hong Kong’s oldest department-store names, is preparing to close its Central branch after its lease expires in the fourth quarter of 2026. The closure will leave the retailer with just one physical department store in the city, at King Wah Centre in Mong Kok.
Notices outside the Central branch confirm the planned closure and encourage customers to continue shopping at its Mong Kok store. Sincere had previously announced that the branch would provisionally remain open until the end of the year. An exact final trading date has not been confirmed in the information reviewed.
Despite its Central name, the store is conveniently reached from Sheung Wan MTR station. It occupies Li Po Chun Chambers at 189 Des Voeux Road Central, near Exit E3.
The latest closure follows the shutdown of Sincere’s Sham Shui Po branch at Dragon Centre on 4 January 2026. That store had served the neighbourhood for around three decades, and its departure reduced the chain’s Hong Kong department-store network to two branches.
Founded in 1900, Sincere has a 126-year history in Hong Kong. That heritage belongs to the company rather than the current Central premises: the retailer moved into Li Po Chun Chambers in 2013.
For customers, the change means losing another place to browse Sincere’s merchandise in person. Its online shop is expected to continue operating alongside the remaining Mong Kok branch.
The shrinking store network adds to discussion about the future of traditional department stores in Hong Kong. However, the stated reason for this branch’s closure is lease expiry; it does not by itself establish that weak consumer spending caused the decision.
Anyone planning a final visit should check Sincere’s latest announcements before travelling, as the closing timetable remains provisional.
