A customer says she was quoted HK$2,289 “with installation” for a window air conditioner, but the technician later collected another HK$500 from the tenant at the installation address. When she sought a refund, the retailer said the technician had thought the payment was a tip. Later WhatsApp replies included “你咪報警” — roughly, “Go ahead and call the police.”

The customer identified the retailer as IP SHOP, at G/F, 90 Prince Edward Road West, Mong Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong. A public business directory lists 百誠家庭電器公司 at the same address, but does not explain the legal relationship between the two names.

The IP SHOP website displays “Powered By Checkgaa Limited” and gives 6150 1813 as a WhatsApp number for product enquiries. The Checkgaa contact page separately lists [email protected], WhatsApp 9820 7405, and a Checkgaa Facebook page. These are contact details published on the businesses’ websites.

According to the case summary supplied by the customer, she contacted IP SHOP on 20 September 2026 about a window air conditioner. The retailer quoted HK$2,289 and wrote “With installation.” After she paid, IP SHOP arranged for a technician to install the unit on 25 September.

Following the installation, the customer learned that the technician had collected HK$500 from the tenant. She says she had not agreed to a fixed additional HK$500 charge. She had asked the tenant to have approximately HK$500 in cash available in case necessary extra work or materials arose, but says this was not an instruction to pay the full amount automatically. She says no clear breakdown of an additional charge was provided.

When the customer queried the payment, IP SHOP replied, according to the conversation summary she supplied: “師傅話客人比$500,仲以為系貼士,現場又無話有額外收費.” In English, this means approximately: “The technician said the customer gave him HK$500 and he thought it was a tip; no additional charge was mentioned on site.”

The retailer subsequently said the technician would return the money and asked for the customer’s payment details. The customer says that, despite repeated follow-ups, she had not received the refund as of 28 September. She says replies included “wait for the technician to transfer it,” “he will transfer it,” and “it can’t be rushed.”

The WhatsApp screenshot also shows replies from the retailer’s contact number including “錢又唔係我收” (“I wasn’t the one who received the money”), “你咪報警” (“Go ahead and call the police”), “我都唔想跟” (“I don’t want to deal with it either”), and “傾條毛咩” (roughly, “What is there to talk about?”). The customer argues that, because IP SHOP arranged the technician, the retailer should help establish why the money was collected and follow up on the refund.

If the original quotation included installation, what was the additional HK$500 for? The customer is seeking a refund, a written explanation of the payment, and clarification of the retailer’s responsibility for the technician it arranged.

This article is based on the customer’s case summary and WhatsApp screenshot. The screenshot supports some of the quoted replies, but does not independently establish the original quotation, the HK$500 payment, or the refund status after 28 September. We will update the article if the retailer responds or further evidence becomes available.
