The University of Hong Kong says a record 100,000 prospective students and family members attended its undergraduate admissions Information Day on Saturday, 24 October.
The crowds extended into HKU MTR station. Reporting from the scene described queues stretching from the platforms towards the concourse at about 3pm, with barriers in place to manage passenger flows. Staff used loudhailers to give instructions in Cantonese, English and Mandarin.
Across the university, visitors attended admissions talks, explored facilities and joined activities introducing undergraduate study and campus life.
This year’s theme focused on artificial intelligence and sustainability, showing how AI is being incorporated into subjects ranging from engineering and computing to the humanities, business, medicine and law.
HKU also highlighted three proposed undergraduate programmes for the 2027–28 academic year: the Bachelor of Arts Elite Programme, Bachelor of Engineering in Robotics Engineering and Bachelor of Social Sciences (Elite). All remain subject to approval.
The proposed courses include interdisciplinary humanities study, a Hong Kong–Shanghai robotics study pathway, and social sciences options combining research with practical impact.
